BekaertDeslee Climate & Energy Policy
At BekaertDeslee, we recognize the urgent need to tackle climate change and reduce our reliance on fossil energy sources. Our sustainability strategy outlines our commitment to mitigating climate impacts, adapting to climate-related risks, and seizing opportunities for innovation and resilience. This policy applies globally across all our business units and product categories.
Version September 8th 2025.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
We aim to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain and contribute to a climate-resilient future. Our near-term ambition is aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing to a 65% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and a 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions in the categories of purchased goods & services and end-of-life treatment of sold products. Both compared to 2021 as baseline year.
KEY DECARBONIZATION LEVERS
To achieve our climate goals, BekaertDeslee will focus on the following levers:
Energy efficiency improvements in manufacturing processes.
Transition to renewable electricity (Scope 2) through on-site generation and credible energy certificates.
Sustainable material sourcing, prioritizing recycled and low-impact raw materials.
Product innovation to enable circularity and reduce end-of-life emissions.
Supplier engagement to reduce Scope 3 emissions in the upstream value chain.
Collaboration with customers to achieve shared sustainability goals.
CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION
We assess climate-related physical and transitional risks across our operations and supply chain. Adaptation measures include:
Assessing and enhancing operational resilience to extreme weather events.
Integrating climate risk into our risk matrix.
Diversifying suppliers and sourcing regions to reduce climate vulnerability.
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Our climate and energy strategy is embedded in a structured management system:
Annual measurement of Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions.
Action plan development at global, regional and local level, with clear responsibilities and timelines.
Progress tracking against targets, reviewed quarterly by the Climate Sustainability Steering Committee.
Integration into business planning, investment decisions, and innovation roadmaps.
GOVERNANCE AND RESPONSIBILITY
The ultimate responsibility for climate and energy performance lies with the Executive Committee. Operational execution is led by the business units, governed by the Sustainability Director and supported by a cross-functional team of operations, procurement, engineering, innovation and others.
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
We actively engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and our shareholder Haniel, to align our actions with their expectations and co-develop solutions.
ALIGNMENT WITH FRAMEWORKS
This policy is aligned with international frameworks such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the GHG Protocol. It also supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action).
